The Best Items To Start Your eBay Business With

The Best Items To Start Your eBay Business With

Beginning an eBay home business is definitely one of the most profitable strategies available to earn extra income online. This type of business allows you to be at home and create your own work hours. Starting up a business means learning the basics that are necessary to make a continuous profit for you.

One of the first steps is to learn exactly how eBay works and what all the rules and policies are before beginning to sell anything online. Once all of the steps have been learned, then you’re ready to begin making a continuous income. Becoming familiar with basic customer service skills, packaging, shipping, and how to properly list items; will prove to benefit your business in the near future. After you have become familiar with the ins and outs of how eBay really works, then you’re ready to get started.

The next step to running your eBay business is to decide on what you’re going to be selling online. Despite what everyone may think, choosing the right items to sell is something that even eBay can help with. By taking part in eBay Pulse you can see exactly which products are the hottest items selling, separated by specific categories. This particular tool makes searching for those special niche items much easier to identify. Generally niche items will be searched by individuals eager to use their credit cards without hesitation.

Buy Low And Sell A Little Higher

There are very few people that use this technique and I’ll probably get blasted in the forums for revealing this. Every so often, websites like Amazon want to shift stock that hasn’t shifted as well as they thought it would and now offer these through “special offers”. If you go to the main page you should see a link marked “special offers”.

One of the best kept secrets to selling on eBay is to buy retail and sell the same way. Many times Amazon provides products at retail prices which are designated under a tab marked special offers. Some of the more popular items to purchase and resell are cosmetics and hair styling items.

Antiques and collectables are also very movable items to be sold on eBay. It seems that everyone interested in these particular items search through eBay on a continuous basis looking for those unique items. Buying your items at a reasonable price and reselling the same items for a slightly higher amount will keep your customers coming back. Don’t over price your merchandise because you think it’s worth a lot of money; generally shoppers want something for little or nothing.

Another successful item to begin selling on eBay is children and teen clothing. There are many resale shops around and often times they designate specific dates in which they lower their prices considerably. Try to pick up as many items as possible on those dates, keeping in mind the more fashionable and brightly colored the better.

Between selling cosmetics, hair styling items and products, antiques and collectables, and children and teen clothing will certainly generate a nice profit for you and your eBay business.

How Should You Pay For Online Purchases

Whole Sale Designer Handbags

Many people buy online on a regular basis, whether on internet auction sites, huge retail websites such as Amazon or via entertainment services such as iTunes. Since it’s your money that is being used when you make a purchase online, you want to know that your identity is safe and that whatever you buy over the internet is protected if something goes awry. Luckily, two of the most popular methods of buying goods online – via credit cards and with the PayPal service – offer various methods of online purchase protection.

PayPal Protection

PayPal is aware that many buyers on online auction sites will be suspicious of sellers and require some confirmation that sellers are who they say they are. PayPal operates a seller-verification system to check this.

When it comes to the receipt of the goods, if you’ve not received what you ordered or find it in quite a different condition than as described online, you can claim a full refund through PayPal. This helps if you receive fewer items than you believed you should be getting or parts of goods are missing. You simply open a dispute and PayPal contacts the sender.

PayPal also protects online consumers through its daily activity. The service employs workers to regularly check through transactions to identify anything that may be amiss. You should also inspect your transaction history in case something comes up that doesn’t ring true. In this case, you can report the suspicious transaction to PayPal and the site will investigate how to get the lost money back to you.

The liability for unauthorized transactions program run by PayPal requires you to make a report within 60 days, though, or you won’t be able to attempt to get this money back.

Since PayPal is a popular option for buyers making purchases through PayPal’s partner, the auction giant eBay, Buyer Protection is a frequently utilized service. This guarantees eBay purchases in case the seller is not genuine.

Using Credit Cards

Credit cards offer less in the way of seller-verification features but do provide extensive identify-theft protection when used to purchase goods online. 3D Secure, for example, applies to a number of credit cards and appears on screen when making a purchase.

If your bank uses 3D Secure, you’ll be asked for an additional password at the time of making a purchase, which is a means of ensuring the rightful card owner is the individual making the online purchase. This extra verification provides a safer online shopping experience when buying goods from independent merchant websites.

A number of card manufacturers have designed schemes to help avoid card fraud online. For example, MasterCard uses SecureCode, which is a further verification step that asks consumers to provide a unique code at the point of purchase online.

Which Is Best?

Both PayPal and credit-card companies place huge importance on protecting online purchases. PayPal is perhaps more useful when buying through auction sites, especially PayPal’s partner site eBay, since it offers much in the way of compensation if a purchase is not as you expected and helps avoid other pitfalls if you’re buying from an online seller.

Credit cards, meanwhile, offer plenty in the way of extra security against online fraud, which can be helpful if you’re making a purchase from a retail store online or through an online site that you’ve not used before.

How eBay Auction Bidding Works

Wholesale Directory

We all know now that eBay is one of the most powerful (or probably THE most powerful) online selling platform there is. Recently, it has opened a new option of selling online which they dubbed as ‘fixed-price transactions’. Of course, their primarily method of selling and or buying online through auctions continue to be available. eBay auctions have continued to comprise about one half of all sales made through eBay. But what really is an eBay auction and how does it work?

An eBay auction is basically just an online form of the traditional method of doing auctions. In a traditional or actual (live) auction, a speed-talking auctioneer stands in front of the crowd, coaxing them to bid more on the price of the item being sold. Things happens real fast. Once the highest bid is placed, then the one who placed it immediately wins the item and pays for it. The same process goes with internet auctions just like eBay’s; the only difference is there is no speed-talking auctioneer to confirm bids. Instead, the bidding is automated, and it doesn’t matter when the last bid was placed – what matters is who placed the highest bid. The bidding process is all managed by a special auction software operated by eBay, and anyone from the all over the world with an internet access, and account with eBay, can bid.

In a live auction, the auction typically lasts for only a few minutes just until no one is no longer bidding. In online auctions though like eBay, the bidding period lasts up to seven days on average. In fact when you create an auction listing to sell a particular item on eBay, you can adjust the bidding period to one up to ten days. You can also set a minimum bid so you don’t have to worry about selling your item at a cheaper price than its value.

Next, a potential buyer browses and searches through eBay’s listings, and when he or she sees your item, he can bid an amount equal to your minimum bid or bid a higher amount he is willing to pay to win your item. When he bids more than the other bidders then he wins.

Just like in live auctions, you can also place additional bids as long as your next bid is more than the current highest bid and is still lower than the maximum allowed bid set by the seller. During the entire bidding period, you will be notified by email whether you have been out-bid so you can still place your additional bids (but as long as the bidding period is still open). When you’ve won the item after placing the highest bid, you again will be notified through email, and then communication, payment, and shipment ensues. The best part about these eBay auctions is that you can leave a feedback to the seller or buyer, so that bogus selling or buying is discouraged.
